What Is Skin Cancer?
In its simplest terms, skin cancer arises from the abnormal growth of skin cells, primarily attributed to sun exposure, though it can manifest in various regions. Despite being the most prevalent cancer in the United States, skin cancer often grapples with misconceptions and is frequently misunderstood.
Delving into the complexities, there are three primary types of skin cancer, each aptly named after the specific skin cells that undergo cancerous transformations.

3 Major Types of Skin Cancer

Basal Cell Carcinoma
- The most prevalent form of skin cancer.
- Frequently located on the head, neck, and arms.
- Characterized by its less invasive and aggressive nature.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma
- The second most common form of skin cancer.
- Often presents as a red bump, scaly patch, or non-healing sore.
- Possesses the potential to spread and become more invasive depending on the case.

Melanoma
- Recognized as the most perilous form of skin cancer.
- Exhibits rapid spread to other body parts if not promptly diagnosed.
